Last September, it was Red Army Watches at Gurney Plaza played host for Alexander Shorokhov’s first ever his visit to the island. Over the course of three days, customers met Shorokhov and had a chance to touch and feel his latest Red Essence collection. The German watchmaker has seen his eccentric and elaborate timepieces grow in influence in recent times and his meet-and-greet at the boutique saw the attendance of those who have come to appreciate his creations. Managing Director of Red Army Watches, Julianna Chai and Executive Director of Red Army Watches, Soemantri Kusumadi, also graced the event with an opening speech followed by one from Alexander Shorokhov.

“I’m happy that the collection is well-received in Malaysia,” says Shorokhov. “It was always my intention to create timepieces that are well-thought out with a story-telling element. Red is my colour of choice this year and I’ve invigorated existing pieces with the colour and well as made sure the new ones bear the same novel methods and ideas that we’ve always had in mind. We’ve come a long way since having our own workshop in Alzenau and I’m glad that we have wonderful partners in Red Army Watches who have shared our love of Alexander Shorokhoff timepieces.”

One such timepiece is to bring to life the Red Essence collection are red Jubilee watches in an automatic version for ladies and a chronograph for men. The guilloche dials with blue-flamed hands bear a subtle placement of a red coat of arms, while the hand engraved movement in housed in a stainless steel or cold case. There is also a blood red leather strap for complete the look that is classic yet erogenous in its appeal.

Another beauty is the C01 Chronograph that has vintage aesthetics and now has a rim of red on the dial to go along with a likewise striking red second and minute timer hands from the Avantgarde collection. The oversized 60, 20 and 40 numerals are still present and a calfskin leather strap with red and yellow stitches are indicative of the brand’s attention to detail. fedor-dostoevsky-chronograph-automatic-fd41-2
The collection is rounded up by a similarly styled Avantgarde Regulator and a reimagined Fedor Dostoevsky Chronograph from the Heritage collection that has roulette wheel ornamentation on the dial and case back. Yet, they are all still high-performing time-keeping instruments that are second-to-none. Soemantri Kusumadi states, “Our partnership with Alexander Shorokhoff has been fruitful over the years. I’ve always loved the design of his watches that are one-of-a-kind, yet timely and appropriate. There are a lot of subtle details that you do not see in watches at this price range. We both share the ambition and desire to promote his latest collection in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. Red is a colour that gets pulses racing and I’m sure their application on his latest collection will hit all the rightnotes with collectors and aficionados.”

Rounding off yet another visit to Malaysia by Shorokhov, who was in Penang for the first time, the unveiling of the Red Essence collection was a clear success and all in attendance had a memorable time. Guests partied away and a few placed their orders for eclectic timepieces from Alexander Shorokhoff both from the latest collection and other exquisite pieces from the brand. Shorokhov himself mingled with guests and elaborated on many of his timepieces to much fanfare.
